The Geometry Window is displaying the 3D geometry in all the tasks except the Prepare Geometry Task where it is replaced by the Geometry Generator. It is capable of showing the un-deformed geometry as seen below, but also the deformed geometry. A deformed geometry is either a Mode Shapes as in the Modal Estimation Task and the Validate Task, or an Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) as in the Frequency Domain ODS Task.
When an item is selected in the Data Organizer then automatically, the Geometry window will update and display the sensors of the selected item in the geometry. The arrows will be colored depending on the status of the sensor. A free (moving) sensor will be green or magenta if it is a projection channel. A reference channel will be colored blue. This is also indicated in the Legend of the geometry window.
In the general display of the un-deformed geometry (as above) there are a few tools available in the toolbar. These are:
Panning of the geometry is toggled On and Off using the button .
Zoom In and Zoom Out of the geometry is performed using the buttons and .
Reset Camera button can be used to move the 3D geometry in its original position, placing the geometry in the center.
Changing the view point to one of the fundamental view points is done using the following command:
or by clicking the View Cube from the various directions . This will be available if the option View Cube on the Properties window is checked.
In case the Geometry window presents a Mode Shape or an Operating Deflection Shape the window changes and also its properties:
In the Legend there is now a section called Modal Values that display the Natural Frequency (Frequency) in Hz,Damping Ratio (Damping) in % as well as Complexity in %.
The toolbar have some more options as well. These are:
Starts the animation of the mode shape.
Stops the animation of the mode shape.
Steps one frame back in the animation.
Steps one frame forward in the animation.
Allows the user to directly go to a specific deformation from the list below:
Interpolation of unmeasured DOF's can be made in two ways that can be selected from the following option:
The options are either the Interpolate Free Nodes dialog or the Slave Nodes Equation Editor.
Reduces the animation speed.
Increase the animation speed.
Use full animation speed.
Reduce the animation amplitude.
Increase the animation amplitude.
Besides the above command there a series of other options that can be applied to change the appearance of the geometry. These are listed in the Properties shown in the middle above:
Camera Type sets the projection that is used. This is either Orthographic where all measures are kept or Perspective where the geometry is projected to look correct from the view point and distance of the observer.
Rotation Mode allows to switch between Turntable, Turnball or trackball camera rotation mode. By default Turntable is being used.
Arrows control whether to display the sensor arrows or not.
Blinking enables or disables the blinking of the Row and Column channels for the selected function.
Arrow Size is a value that control the size of the arrows.
Axis controls whether the axis coordinates system in the lower left corner should be displayed or not.
Light controls the material reflection due to the light sources of the geometry. If disabled the material becomes transparent and can be looked through.
Nodes displays or hides the nodes.
Assigned nodes only shows only the nodes which have a channel associated with them and hides the free nodes.
Node Numbers toggles the global node numbers On and Off.
Font Size sets the size of te font used to display the node number.
Node Size is a value that controls the size of the nodes.
Enabling Quad View will split the Geometry window into four sub parts, where the geometry at the same time is view down ward (-Z), from sides (+X) and (+Y), and finally a 3D view that can be rotated like normal.
Surfaces controls whether to show the surfaces or not one the geometry.
Texture controls the graphical appearance of the deformed geometry when animating mode shapes.
Undeformed Geometry toggles the un deformed geometry On and Off when animating mode shapes.
View Cube controls whether to show it or not one the geometry. See above.
Wire Frame is the rotational box known from ARTeMIS Extractor. It can be shown by enabling this option.
Animation Options / Animation Type Toggles between All, Mode shape only and Uncertainty only. In case of Mode shape only, the geometry is being animated, but the uncertainty in each node is not. In case of Uncertainty only, the geometry stands still an donly the uncertainty in each node is being animated. In case of All, both geometry and nodes uncertainty are being animated. This option is enabled only in UPCX, because we can estimate the uncertainty only in this estimator.
Animation Options / Uncertainty Scale toggles between Current mode and All UPCX modes and scales the mode shape uncertainty relative to the current mde or all UPCX mode shapes.
Sweep Options / Sweep Direction toggles between Forward and Backward direction. The next shape or TODS position to be animated will be selected depending on this direction.
Sweep Options / Dwell Cycles specifies how many cycless the current shape or TODS position should be animated before proceeding to the next shape or TODS Position
Show Legend controls whether it should be visible or not.
Show Display Settings controls if they should be visible or not in the legend.
