Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Ventura is a Civil Engineer with specializations in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering, with more than 20 years of experience in these fields. He is currently a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Director of the Earthquake Engineering research facility at UBC. He has been conducting vibration studies of major civil engineering structures for more than 20 years, and has been studying the effects of earthquakes on man-made structures since 1976. His professional experience includes structural design and seismic retrofit of low rise and high-rise buildings and offshore oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

He has many years of experience on seismic analysis and instrumentation of structures and geological sites in seismically active zones. He is a well-recognized international consultant on vibration problems of structures and on seismic risk studies, and is recognized as one of the leaders in earthquake engineering in Canada. He is currently an advisor to the United Nations on seismic risk mitigation in countries with significant earthquake engineering, structural dynamics and modal testing. member of several professional societies in Canada and abroad.
